elopement in alaska

This week's feature is a chilly, yet breathtaking elopement in Alaska - so bundle up!  I had the pleasure of visiting this unbelievably gorgeous region just a few months ago, so seeing all of these photos makes me immediately want to back!  Alaska is a such a magical place and unlike any area I've visited before.  When I found out they performed wedding ceremonies on glaciers I knew I had to feature one.  Our featured couple Cynthia and Andy decided to take a cruise to Alaska and make their pit stop in Juneau a destination for an intimate wedding ceremony followed by an amazing photo shoot.  They wanted to keep it relaxed and low key, but the landscapes in all the locations truly shine and gives their photos a unique edge to traditional wedding portraits.  This is such a fantastic elopement idea or even a fun vacation shoot to do while traveling.  Derek and I tried it out this year on our first anniversary and it was a blast!  You can check out the photos from our adventure HERE.   I want to give a special thanks to Joe from Chugach Peaks Photography for this beautiful submission!  Enjoy!

Elopement in Alaska | How They Met

"I met Andy through Match.com.  I was a workaholic and Andy moved to the area to be closer to his family.  Andy was the first person that I talked to on Match and I know it sounds cliché, but I just knew he was the one.  Our first date was a concert Andy previously had tickets for and after that we spent a lot of time doing other activities like hiking."

The Dress

"My dress was from David's Bridal.  I wanted something simple, yet elegant and the A-line with just a little detail around the bust was perfect.  It was something that would travel easily and fit the location, since we had to fly from Washington DC to San Francisco to get on our cruise to Alaska.  Knowing it was cold, I knew I needed some sort of cover-up, so I purchased a custom made blue cardigan and a scarf from Etsy.com."

The Ceremony

"Besides our officiant, the ceremony was just the two of us.  Our pilot and photographer served as our witnesses.  While in port in Juneau, we had to tender from the ship to shore.  While on shore we took a limo to vital statistics, picked up our marriage license and drove to the airport so we could meet our helicopter. From there we, along with the officiant and photographer Joe from Chugach Peaks Photography, took a flight to Herbert Glacier for an intimate ceremony followed by a site seeing tour and beautiful photo shoot around various locations in Juneau.  It was amazing and we saw things most tourists didn't.  We concluded our day with a drink at the Red Dog Saloon and then it was back on the ship for our next port."

The Reception

"We did have a small 'reception' when we got home with Andy's side of the family.  It was an intimate BBQ and tent we put together in my in-laws yard.   We made some candle centerpieces with mason jars that we jazzed up with ribbon that complemented our colors from our  ceremony.  The small reception included a white cake with white roses and stephanotis flowers.  I even surprised Andy with a Detroit Tigers groom cake!"

Favorite Moment

"My favorite moment was being able to explore a new area of the world with each other.  It was completely stress and care-free."
